Six Amphora species [A. affinis Kützing, A. copulata (Kützing) nov. comb., A. marina W. Smith, A. ovalis (Kützing) Kützing, A. proteus Gregory, A. robusta Gregory] belonging to the subgenus Amphora Cleve were observed on strewn slides in the British Museum (Natural History). Light microscope photographs of examples corresponding to their descriptions have been included. Comments on the authenticity of the material examined and the suitability of the observed specimens as types for the species are made. Ses Amphora-spesies [A. affinis Kützing, A. copulata (Kützing) nov. comb., A. marina W. Smith, A. ovalis (Kützing), Kützing, A. proteus Gregory, A. robusta Gregory] wat tot die subgenus Amphora Cleve behoort is op diatoomstrooimikroskoopplaatjies in die versameling van die British Museum (Natural History) waargeneem. Ligmikroskoopfoto’s van voorbeelde wat ooreenstem met hul beskrywings word ingesluit. Kommentaar word gelewer oor die egtheid van die ondersoekte materiaal en oor die geskiktheid van die eksemplare as tipes van die respektiewelike spesies.
